This week's speaker - Cathi Starr, of the Southern AZ VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS), Voluntary Service Program

Cathi Starr born and raised in the Eastern Washington. She is an Air
Force Veteran of the Gulf War Era. Cathi has lived in Tucson since being
stationed at Davis Monthan AFB in 1990. She enjoys spending time with family
(husband, daughters, and grandchildren).

Cathi has been a champion for the cause of veterans and individuals with
disabilities for over 25 years. She began this journey as a caregiver in a small
care home. As her experience and knowledge grew she advanced into
supervision and management of multiple care homes. Later, Cathi shared her
expertise and talents training other caregivers and managers.

In 2000 Ms. Starr joined the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services
(ADVS) and became an Arizona Court Certified Fiduciary. Cathi spent 6 years
as Guardian and Conservator for incapacitated Veterans and widows.
In 2006 Cathi transferred to a new job within ADVS as a VA Accredited
Veteran Benefits Counselor, again advancing to supervisor then regional
manager for the ADVS Benefits Counselors in Southern Arizona.

In 2014 Ms. Starr began her VA career at the Southern AZ VA Health
Care System (SAVAHCS), Voluntary Service Program. Cathi’s well rounded
knowledge and experience have been very beneficial for the Volunteer Caregiver
Support Program she now manages. Volunteer Caregiver Support Program
provides friendly volunteer visitors for isolated housebound Veterans.
